Why your skin ages

Telomeres are the caps at the end of our chromosomes -like the caps on the end of a shoelace. As we age, and our cells continually divide, our telomeres get shorter and shorter. Our body naturally produces an enzyme called human Telomerase – discovered by Dr Andrews – which helps prevent the shortening of the telomeres. But not enough Telomerase to completely prevent the aging process.

The molecule TAM-818, discovered by Dr Andrews and his team at Sierra Sciences in Reno, Nevada, helps induce the production of more Telomerase, thus prolonging the process of telomere shortening.
